Yellow Cat Design was established by Mark Bird in 2012 with the aim of providing high-quality design agency services at affordable freelance prices.

Since 2017, Yellow Cat has operated on a full-time basis, with Mark spearheading most of our services. However, our dedicated team also includes a network of skilled designers, developers, and marketing professionals, allowing us to offer a comprehensive marketing solution. This approach combines the personal touch you would expect from working directly with a designer with the expertise and capacity typically associated with large design agencies. Mark originally started as a print design specialist, honing his skills and expertise in projects like product catalogues and brochures. With a background as a graphic designer and experience as a studio manager in pre-press environments, Mark knows exactly how to create impactful designs for print.
Although Mark’s roots were firmly established as a print and branding specialist, we have witnessed a dynamic evolution since Yellow Cat’s inception in 2012, blending our traditional print expertise with cutting-edge digital services.
Remarkably, most of our clients from 2012 still choose to work with us today, a testament to our commitment to long-term relationships. At Yellow Cat, we prioritise our clients’ needs, even if it means sacrificing short-term gains for their business’s success.
These days, it’s not just websites that we design. A lot of our work is centred around UI (User Interface) and UX (User Experience) design and includes a full service right from wireframes through to high fidelity prototypes. We can provide UI and UX services for digital journeys such as websites, mobile apps, web apps, or portals.
In addition to our background in print and our digital skills, there is always a theme that has run throughout all of our work which is brand management. Whether it’s creating a new brand from scratch or ensuring that a new website or app fits with an existing brand personality – we always put brands at the centre of what we do. Mark has worked with many well-known brands such as Mitie, Save The Children, Barnardos, Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), Environmental Scientific Group (ESG), Bristol Rovers FC, Buy As You View, Indigo Group, and Credas.
As well as working with big brands, we are proud to have worked with numerous local businesses over the years to help design their brands and launch their businesses.
The result of this wide range of experience is that we can offer our clients a complete marketing service, most of it directly but other services, such as TV & Radio Advertising, Print, or PR, can be delivered using a trusted network of partners that we have worked with over many years.

Hello, thanks for visiting our site. I am a designer and owner of Yellow Cat Design and have been in the industry for over 20 years. Don’t worry, I’m not as grumpy as I look in my photo!
I started off working for agencies in Bournemouth (CPA and Aylesworth Fleming) as well as a stint as a freelance designer working mainly with Dorset County Council. I then moved to Cardiff where I was Creative Director at Carrick Creative for 9 years. At Carrick, I was instrumental in developing them from a small print-based studio to a well-known creative agency in the area.
I then moved on to a new challenge, working in-house for Buy As You View where I was in charge of brand and creative across the whole business. Working on a single brand widened my skills as I worked on a variety of creative disciplines such as TV & Radio advertising, Web Analytics including BI (Business Intelligence), Photoshoots, and print procurement.
As I progressed I became the senior member of the Marketing team and was responsible for the day-to-day running of the department, reporting to the Marketing Director.
This wide range of experience has all gone into creating Yellow Cat Design where we can offer a plethora of marketing and design services and advice.

Thrust into the deep end, and after managing email campaigns that other people had come up with, I discovered my creative side and started designing and writing emails and copywriting for the website. I also honed my film-making skills by creating and editing product videos and combined this with managing affiliate campaigns, analysing lead and campaign data and general web tasks.
Here at Yellow Cat, I’m in charge of developing new business opportunities and giving my creative input which Mark generally ignores…even though he shouldn’t…:) and making lots of tea.

He’s not yellow, but he is a cat and can be found prowling around our home studio normally trying to lie on the laptops whilst we’re working. He’s very friendly, if a little bonkers, and would love to meet you!
